Spyware Removal

Even a well prepared Windows machine operated by a captain just rippling with geek can succumb to the occasional piece of spyware. There’s almost no avoiding these cycle hogging pieces of code spawned in the vile bowels of marketers.

If you are ‘that computer guy’ who everyone and their internet explorer using mother goes to for help, then it’s a pretty safe bet you’ve had some dealing with spyware before.  Here’s my recipe for spyware removal.

    1. Disable system restore
    2. Update virus def files. Don’t got an AV solution? Get AVG for free
    3. Install and update

    4. Reboot to safe mode
    5. Run CCleaner. Don’t change any options.  Just use the default clean on the windows tab.
    6. Run virus scan
    7. Run full system scan on Ad-Aware
    8. Run scan & immunize with Spybot S&D
    9. Immunize with Spyware Blaster
    10. Repeat steps 6-9
    11. Still detecting spyware? Use HijackThis. It’s complicated and tedious, but it gets the job done.
